In 2006 Andy Sponseller and Connie Poten held a contest to find a new name for Rattlesnake Creek Vineyard after learning that a Washington vintner had been selling a blended red wine called Rattlesnake Ridge for some time.

There were more than a thousand entries. The winning name, Ten Spoon, came from Frederick Kreutzer, chief wine expert for Taster Wine, Denmark's largest wholesaler and distributor. His prize was a case of Ten Spoon wines every year for life.

Since regulations forbid us from mailing wine to Denmark we enlisted the services of Dr. George and Janet Schemm, who were planning a trip to Europe. On June 3 they met with Mr. Kreutzer at the Copenhagen Airport and presented him with two cases of Ten Spoon wines. (If you’re planning to visit Denmark in 2008 Ten Spoon would be pleased to give you a case if you'd deliver one to Mr. Kreutzer.)

Here's Mr. Kreutzer's response to receiving the first installments of his prize:

Dear Connie and Andrew,

What a big day here in Denmark! Right now I'm sitting here sipping the last glass of my first bottle of Blind Curve. Here is the story of the day:

I met with the Danish woman in the airport where we med George and Janet. They were very happy and so was I. I almost ripped up one of the boxes so I could see with my own eyes that the Ten Spoon Wines were here! Impressive!

I took the wine home and put a bottle Blind Curve in the fridge right away. My neighbor’s father is President in the SAS Wineclub and he was visiting so I served him the wine. He was impressed, and so was I.

A very lovely wine, the bouquet is lovely with nice yellow flowers an a little spiciness. In the mouth I feel good grip and nice smoothness. A beautiful wine I will look forward to taste again when it has settled down a little bit.

It is my impression that wine is a natural product and is a little dissy after a long trip and normally it takes about a month to settle down. I will get back to you with notes on the wines when I taste them.

I drank the wine to a lovely homemade sandwich—nice match.

I hope George and Janet will have a nice stay here in Denmark and I hope to see you some day and share a nice glass/bottle of wine with you.
